Carolyn Chang is a senior at Mission San Jose High
School in Fremont. Throughout her four years in high
school, Carolyn has volunteered for various programs
that involved working with and teaching children. These
include being a teaching assistant at the Wisdom Culture
Camp, tutoring at Chadbourne Elementary School, and
being a teaching assistant at a preschool program,
Sunshine Kids. During week-long trips to Mexico
though her church, Carolyn and her team prepare
lessons and plan craft time for about 30-40 elementary
school-age children.

Her minister reports that “She took her responsibility seriously and worked well with
the other kids’ team members. The children responded enthusiastically to her, as well,
and enjoyed their time with her.” Her Chinese teacher adds, “I am extremely proud of
her going to Taiwan over the summer of 2008 to teach disadvantaged students
English.” In her spare time, Carolyn plays on the JV Badminton team, is a member of
the PAWS Club which includes walking dogs, and participates in other school, church,
and community groups and programs.
